oranges and a sore back. | jul 31, 2003 10:19

i have a sore back. it's been like this for a couple of days, but it's been a relaxing couple, so i've been resting it where i can; until tonight. we played ultimate frisbee - it was quite some fun. but now i hurt quite some. oh well. someone was bleeding, and i have blood on my shirt now. eeeewwww gross.

i'm reading this book, five quarters of the orange. it's fantastic. it's by the same author as chocolat. I think you should read it. I borrowed it from alex, the cuban guy i was rooming with a month or so ago.

i was online this morning "supervising" (ie, playing games) children in a computer lab. I became somewhat addicted to this bizarre little game that reminded me of one i played a few years back called the incredible machine. this one is called cyber mouse party. worth a look if you're bored.

also if you're bored, you may care to strap on some little carbon fibre wings and attempt to fly across the english channel. batman felix was bored, he did it. clever fellow.

the french people are laughing at their emails written in french, looking around all smug like becasue they're the only ones that understand. bleh. silly french people. i bet they couldn't fly across the english channel with little wings, or save all the little mouseys.

oh, the sea, and the fish and stuff... the receptionist, faye, has gone away for a few days. So the painting is on hold. But it's lookign lovely. it is. i've made pink fish, yellow fish, blue fish... and a indigo fish. yes, indigo IS really a colour. they didn't just make it up. fancy that.

still no news from scott, and none from andrew... and i'm about to write to kate... but my oh my it's difficult to organise stuff when no one writes.

oh, matt shannon is here today. i went to school with him, well, he was a year below me. his step dad was the ehadmaster of my primary school and his little sister went to the same orthodontist as me. AND we played feild hockey together. now he is a kitchen-hand/chef somewhere in england. he came here for the weekend to catch up with people cos he worked here last season. he has no hair. he looks silly.

oh, i just finished all levels of cyber mouse party by the way... :o)

double this double that. | jul 27, 2003 10:29

double double this this.
double double that that.
double this.
double that.
double double this that.

children never cease to amuse me. children never cease to annoy me either. life is peculiar.

the sky is complete - the sea is thick and blue with a glimmer of irridescence. it was like spreading gloopy custard on the wall. my fingers glimmer in the light; blue green shades flickering, dancing. i was alone tonight; cross-legged on the floor, spattering the paint on with some ambient drum'n'bass drifting through the air. my eyes were twinkling, i was smiling at the goodness - watching the scene evolve. tomorrow morning i put the sand on. maybe a fish. the fish are well funky.

i finally got a picture of a red squirrel. and i ate some wild blckberries thisafternoon. mmmmm blackberries.

i'm starting to make some plans now for when i leave here... i've not yet made any concrete plans 'cause i'm not sure what everyone else is doing. scott is elusive, kate hasn't replied, andrew hasn't replied... maybe i'll just go find some design work and a small acton flat to bounce around in. maybe campden town. i think i want to go to swindon though. yesyes, there isn't much in swindon i hear you say - but there is a place to stay, and a few bits to see around and about there. but, it's one of the few ideas that i have... suggestions welcome :o) (like mum's newspaper clipping of the vodka bar... yeah yeah)

blue. | jul 24, 2003 9:23

i have blue fingers. i got paint on them whilst i was painting the sky. i think the blue colour is fresh and a little icy cool but with an underlying happiness and vibrance that gives you a warm feeling inside, making it a suitable base colour all year round. amy looked at me weird. she just thought it looked blue. she gives me that weird look a lot now. most people do. fortaunately i dont' have to deal with any of them anymore in four weeks time. no more being talked at. no more cliqs. no more facades. though, i will miss talking to kids about toast, or mangoes. maybe about the way birds fly thrugh the sky and the subsequent feeling of peace inside...

on sunday we're painting the sea. i would be painting it myself - but amy decided she wanted to help. i was looking forward to some time spent alone being creative. oh well. it's not often i get talked to anymore - so i guess i take it as a compliment or something. i was a tadbit hurt when she said faye (the "client") had dropped some colour charts in for her, then corrected herself to say, us. this was my project. she stole it in her mind. my pedantic nature annoys her i think. in fact, i think it annoys everyone. these people just dont' understand. do you ever feel misunderstood?

(oh, we're painting an underwater scene on faye's five year old daughters bedroom walls.) (just to clear up any confusion.)

four weeks remain. not five as i previously thought. bring on august twenty two.

i bought three plants the other day. they bring a new life to my room. ever since i saw the film leon (http://us.imdb.com/Title?0110413), i've been wanting my very own plant. now i have three. i like them. i'll have pictures, or even, maybe, a video sometime. yes yes - promises... but, thigns will come some day. they shall indeed. but now, sleep beckons...

summercamp has arrived. | jul 20, 2003 10:29

welcome to summercamp. no more schools for six weeks. instead we're inundated with city children with that lovely "i've been here before, you weren't here, you must be new. i'm not convinced that you know what you're doing" attitude. or the forty spanish teenagers that dont' speak a word of english. excellent. the plus side is that i got to go to london the otehr day for an iced chocolate... the downside is that we had to bring back 34 children. it was lovely though. and i had this morning off. and it's summery weather. and i saw more woodpeckers. there is some spouting missing from woodlands house. i've found a new song that i like (love will set you free (jambe myth) - andrea brown; goldtrix (from the ministry of sound spring annual 2002. i got my hair butchered today by alexis the timetabling girl - oooo dear god it's tragic. but alas, it's ok - hari grows back... but now i look quite like her boyfriend adam - oh well. i can't make feet look pretty in photos, no matter how hard i try. but i can make firepoi look good. yes indeed. and my super lobster outfit from the other night at the beach. caz was leaving, so she had a sea-themed party to see her off. cam and i went as lobsters... love it. my room was really messy though. oh yeah, and mum, i forgot to tell you in your email - the starry jasper came from that old couple at the gemboree with all the little trays of stuff, we should have their card in the folder... i think. from memory it has something written on the back. (but then, most do.) we never got the electrical storm that we were promised. bah.

monotony. | jul 17, 2003 10:49

evidently, trying to do a backflip off of the zipwire platform was a bad idea.

evidently, when a little girl grabs hold of your rope-burned arm to stop her from falling, even though she won't and you've assured her seven times, it hurts like french connection united kingdom.

evidently, some people are not overly impressed when they find out you've been doing backflips thirty three feet off of the ground.

evidently, they think i care.

that's about all the news i think. oh, no, i burned myself thrice at the campfire. I burned myself on a grigri. i cut my pinky tonight opening a pack of bamboo whilst builing a frame for a picture of an elephant. and i stood on a drawing pin. i fear tomorrow... maybe an amputation, or at least a broken limb...? it would, at least, provide some form of variety from this monotony, from these people, from the overly diluted orange cordial...

six more weeks.

i never thought i'd see myself talking like this about this place - i love the job to bits, i do, but it's all the little bits in between that are enough to amke you cringe in the same way you do when someone drops a frog in a blender. (go on, imagine it.)

i'll feel differently tomorrow... probably. frustration is mine tonight. alllllll mine...

this side of an orange. | jul 13, 2003 10:52

today i made orange juice by squeezing an orange into a pyrex coffee cup. mmmm orange juice.

and that's about all the news there is. neat huh? summer camp is startnig next week. and um, i had more high ropes today. and tomorrow, and well, everyday this week. variety is the spice...

there is a big moth flying around tonight. it just flew into my eye. silly moth. i caught a grasshopper today too. it was bouncy.

more on sunday. at the library now. ciao.

tragedy xxii. | jul 06, 2003 22:14

the biggest recorded size of a bubble-gum bubble is 22 inches across. twenty-two doctors had practices in the world trade centre. the West Bank and Gaza represent only "22 percent of Palestine." So, evidently, it's harder to find weird facts about the number twenty-two than i had ever imagined. I thought that this might have been a really interesting and educational post. oh well.

so there are only one hour and twenty six minutes to go until i am twenty one no longer. how depressing. The last year however has been somewhat of a memorable one; kicking off with the stroke and subsequent and unfortunate death of my granny; then being fired from my job and taking a personal grievance and winning (hurrah hurrah nyah nyah frosty peak); meeting some of the most amazing people i've ever met in my life and having a spectacular new years together with some of them in nelson; working with a range of clients doign graphic design; discovering jack (thanks gazza); and then, to end it all off - coming here to the isle of wight. Now i'm left wondering where i want to be in life - what career path is the best choice, and, whether my stupid short attention span will allow me to stick with anything for long anyways - oh well, best i not think about such things... more fun keeping the options open to what may come.

so - tomorrow - i'm working till 5:30 (funhike in the morning followed by meetschools in the afternoon (welcome party, centre orientation and entertainment till dinnertime) and then i dunno - maybe i'll do my laundry or something. maybe a bottle of wine (my last teachers stole my corkscrew. sheesh) down on the beach with a fire... will see what the day brings.

home currently sounds like utter turmoil, what with the weather and making and breaking of relationships and other stuff like that. hard to keep up with... :S

I'm particularly happy at the moment due to an article i read the other day informing me that it is now legal for me to work as a graphic designer in the uk. splendid. now i can make some decent money. aint THAT good news then eh wot?

nice. see you all when i'm twenty-two...

killer and the end o' the dutchies. | jul 01, 2003 21:38

did i ever talk about killer? the game? the instructors play it here to keep ourselves occupied at nights. the game lasts for a month and each player is issued with a plastic knife with a name on it; the person they have to "kill". A kill is made by touching them with the knife between 6pm and 6am - unwitnessed. The winner is the person with the most kills and still alive. everyone pays a pound and you get 50p per kill and the winner gets the remaining money. so today i was presented with £40 and the title of killer2. love it.

there is no work for scott. the french people came. drat them french.

the twelve dutchies left today. was a very sad morning. and tristan left this evening. now we're down to 9 kiwis.

ik ga schlapen. welterusten. duei.
